It was the first cool weekend day that demanded fresh bread and homemade soup. We went to the market in the morning, picking up what felt like tons of food. When I could no longer figure out how to carry anything we came home (but not before tasting the chocolate-covered bacon at the Piggery).  [...]

In the spirit of “Food Independence Day” we decided to cook up a pretty traditional meal for the 4th, and took the challenge to source our food pretty close to home.  Here’s how I think we did:

Grass-fed beef and potatoes from Sabol’s Farm (26 miles)
Bun from Le Garden Bakery (13 miles)

A sad day today, as we had what will probably be our last brunch at ABC Cafe. This all-vegetarian restaurant has graced Ithaca for almost 30 years, and I’m really going to miss it.
