It was pretty hot today for the first day of May in the Fingerlakes of New York, by which I mean it was in the mid-80’s. I am more comfortable with that as a pop music era than I am as a temperature. This morning was productive: laundry, light food shopping, the Farmer’s Market, writing. [...]

It was the first cool weekend day that demanded fresh bread and homemade soup. We went to the market in the morning, picking up what felt like tons of food. I feel a bit guilty, and I don’t want to alienate my vegetarian friends here. But we’ve had some very good meat lately.
I’ve been vegetarian for much of the last 2 1/2 years. I think its the right thing for me to do by most calculations, and yet, my body doesn’t always seem to agree. [...]

This morning was our very first ever CSA pickup. CSA = Community Supported Agriculture. Community members buy a “share” of the farm’s harvest for the season, paid up front (sometimes with a negotiatted payment plan). The farmer has job security and financial security, and every one shares in the bounty or hardship of the season.
